End user authentication is done via radius. We offer 2 forms
of radius authentication, hosted and
proxy (or pass-through).
Using our proxy based service we forward authentication
requests to your radius server. Optionally we can provide
you with authentication services via our own radius server
(hosted). Using the hosted model you would manage users
through a secure web based interface allowing you to add,
delete, disable, modify, and monitor usage both
via interactive and batch mode commands.
The only requirement for using our proxy radius service
is that your radius server support realm based authentication.
With a universal deployment using pass-through radius
there
would
little
or no changes
needed
to your radius
server.
For a value add deployment using pass-through radius you
would need to make only minor changes to radius to support
acceleration. You could choose to put your accelerated customers
in another radius realm, or add a custom radius reply item
to authenticate Webcelerate enabled customers.
If you want us to host radius authentication we can do that
as well, there's no additional charge. We support the management
of multiple realms via a single login and provide you with
an easy to use back office environment to allow you to manage
your customers and monitor usage.
Depending on your requirements there are advantages and
disadvantages to both "hosted" and "proxy" configurations.
Hosted Advantages:
- Quick deployment (there is no radius integration required)
- No need to upgrade your radius server (if your radius
server doesn't handle realm based authentication)
- Interactive and batch command (add, delete, disable,
etc.) support (automation is possible with curl)
Hosted Disadvantages:
- Decoupled from your existing control and management systems
- Customer authentication passwords stored in multiple locations
Proxy Advantages:
- Easy integration with your existing customer control
and management systems
- Customer password management is simplified
Proxy Disadvantages:
- Requires radius knowledge to deploy
- Integration issues can delay deployment
- Radius server must support realm based authentication
After you sign up with us we will assign a radius integration
engineer to work closely with you to ensure you are up and
running as quickly as possible.
